Ingersoll Rand Joins Department of Energy’s Inaugural Better Climate Challenge

On Monday, February 28, 2022, the Department of Energy (DOE) recognized Ingersoll Rand for joining its inaugural Better Climate Challenge. By forming this partnership, Ingersoll Rand commits to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by at least 50% in 10 years. The company will work with DOE to provide sustainability solutions, decarbonization strategies and best practices for carbon reduction as they work towards established Ingersoll Rand Environmental Goals and GHG emission reduction efforts.

“We aspire to drive change with our environmental goals, and as a partner in this challenge, we are able to expand the impact of our efforts by sharing replicable pathways to decarbonization,” said Mary. “As we work alongside the Department of Energy on our share environmental goals, we will continue to push ourselves to answer the urgent call to mitigate the impacts of climate change.”

Ingersoll Rand is one of 80 organizations across the U.S. economy to join the DOE’s Better Climate Challenge. If all organizations in the commercial, public and industrial sectors reduced their U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by 50%, it would save nearly 1.5 billion metric tons of CO2e annually, more than the emissions from every home in the country.

The Better Climate Challenge builds on over a decade of DOE experience through the Better Buildings Initiative. Through Better Buildings, DOE partners with public and private sector organizations to make commercial, public, industrial, and residential buildings more efficient, thereby saving billions of dollars on energy bills, reducing emissions and creating thousands of jobs. To date, more than 950 Better Buildings partners have shared their innovative approaches and strategies for adopting energy efficient technologies.

In addition to joining the Better Climate Challenge, Ingersoll Rand’s environmental, governance and social (ESG) efforts recently received recognition from S&P Global’s 2020 Sustainability Yearbook and was distinguished as an “Industry Mover” for ranking within the top 15% of its industry category. The Sustainability Yearbook includes companies that are in the top 15% of their industry and achieve an S&P Global ESG score that is within 30% of the best in their sector. In addition to making the list, Ingersoll Rand was awarded the “Industry Mover Sustainability Award” for its top 15% ranking, having an improved S&P Global ESG Score of a least five percent and achieving the strongest improvement in similar industries.

These two achievements mark the rapid progress of Ingersoll Rand’s ESG efforts since establishing sustainability as a strategic imperative in 2020.
